Security

Personal protection, OPSEC, evacuation plan and crisis security

In crisis situations, police and emergency services may be unavailable. Your safety depends primarily on you. The best defense is avoiding confrontation and staying unnoticed.

OPSEC - Operational Security

OPSEC is protecting information that could be used against you. In a crisis, knowledge about your supplies can make you a target.

Stay discreet

  • • Don't brag about your supplies
  • • Don't show your preparations on social media
  • • Limit the circle of those who know
  • • Be a "gray man" - don't stand out

Avoid risk

  • • Avoid crowds and dangerous places
  • • Don't display valuable equipment
  • • Darken windows after dark
  • • Hide your car if possible

Evacuation plan

Sometimes staying in place is more dangerous than evacuating. Have an evacuation plan and a Bug-Out Bag ready.

Bug-Out Bag (72h)

A backpack with essential items for 72 hours. Always ready by the door.

Basics

  • • Water (3 liters) or filter
  • • Food (bars, canned goods)
  • • Flashlight + batteries
  • • Radio
  • • Waterproof matches

Clothing and shelter

  • • Spare clothes
  • • Tarp/tent
  • • Sleeping bag or thermal blanket
  • • Hiking boots

Medical

  • • First aid kit
  • • Chronic medications
  • • Hygiene supplies

Documents and cash

  • • Document copies (waterproof)
  • • Cash (small denominations)
  • • Paper maps
  • • Contact list

Evacuation routes

  • Plan at least 3 routes out of the city
  • Set a family meeting point outside the home
  • Have a designated safe destination (family, friends in the countryside)
  • Practice the plan with your family

Personal defense

⚠️ Most important rule

The best fight is one you avoided. Physical confrontation should be a last resort when life is directly threatened. Escape is always better than fighting.

Non-lethal means

  • Pepper spray: Effective, legal, range 2-5m
  • Stun gun: Direct contact, very effective
  • Telescopic baton: Requires training
  • Personal alarm: Will scare off attacker, call for help

Self-defense basics

  • Look around, avoid threats
  • Maintain confidence
  • Shout loudly for help
  • Target: sensitive points (eyes, nose, groin)
  • After striking - run!

Legal aspects of self-defense

Self-defense laws vary by country. You may legally defend yourself against direct, unlawful attacks on any legally protected interest.

Conditions: Proportional force, immediate threat, inability to escape. Excessive defense may result in criminal liability.

Community and cooperation

In a crisis, there is strength in numbers. Cooperation with trusted neighbors significantly increases everyone's chances of survival.

Benefits of a survival group:

Greater security (shift system)
Division of duties and skills
Possibility of resource exchange
Mental and emotional support
