Hygiene and Infection

Waste Disposal

Separate latrine from water source (minimum 30-50 meters). Bury waste. Use chlorinated lime for disinfection.

Water Hygiene

Boil water for at least 1 minute (3 minutes in mountains). This is the surest method of killing pathogens.

Isolation of the Sick

A person with infectious symptoms (diarrhea, fever) must be isolated from the group. Caregiver should wear a mask and gloves.

Hand Washing

Foundation of infection control. Soap + water for minimum 20 seconds. Without water - hand sanitizer with 60%+ alcohol.
