First Aid - Complete Guide
In crisis situations, access to professional medical help may be limited or impossible. Knowing basic life-saving procedures is crucial. Below are the most important protocols.
1 MARCH Algorithm
Standard Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) protocol for assessing and treating casualties in trauma conditions. Priorities are set according to the most common preventable causes of death.
M - Massive Hemorrhage
Massive Hemorrhage. This is the priority. If you see bright red blood spurting or flowing rapidly, you must stop it immediately (tourniquet, direct pressure).
A - Airway
Airway. Check if the casualty can breathe. Clear the airway (head tilt-chin lift, nasopharyngeal airway).
R - Respiration
Respiration. Assess breathing quality. Look for chest wounds (sucking chest wounds) and seal them with an occlusive dressing.
C - Circulation
Circulation. Check pulse, skin color, temperature. Look for minor bleeding and stop it. Consider shock.
H - Hypothermia / Head
Hypothermia / Head. Prevent heat loss (foil blanket). Assess consciousness and head injuries.
2 CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
If the casualty is not breathing, start chest compressions. Perform 30 compressions in the center of the chest (fast and hard), followed by 2 rescue breaths. Continue until vital signs return or help arrives.
3 Burns
Cool the burned area with cool (not ice-cold) water for at least 15-20 minutes. Do not pop blisters. Apply a sterile dressing or hydrogel dressing. Keep the casualty hydrated.
Before starting implementation, it is important to understand the basic principles. This requires a thoughtful approach and consideration of many factors.
- Planning: Every action should be preceded by thorough planning and assessment
- Redundancy: Always have backup supplies and alternative solutions
- Review: Regularly check and update your medical preparations
- Training: Practice and train yourself and family members in first aid
